Guided By Voices (GBV) is an American indie rock band formed in Dayton, Ohio, in 1981. Known for their prolific output and distinctive lo-fi aesthetic, GBV has released over 30 studio albums, often recorded on four-track tape machines, contributing significantly to the 'lo-fi' movement. Their songwriting, primarily driven by frontman Robert Pollard, is characterized by surreal, often cryptic lyrics, catchy melodies, and a raw, unpolished sound that has inspired countless independent musicians. Despite numerous lineup changes and periods of hiatus, GBV maintains a dedicated cult following and continues to tour and record.
